A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects any part of the urinary system, which includes the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and urethra. UTIs occur when bacteria, typically from the digestive tract, enter the urinary tract through the urethra and multiply, causing an infection.

Background
Ummi is an eighteen-year-old girl who attends Government School, located about a kilometer from her home. She is the fifth child among eight siblings and lives with her parents. Ummi aspires to become a lawyer in the future. Five days ago, she began experiencing fever, headache, and painful urination, accompanied by a loss of appetite and back pain. Upon examination and laboratory investigations at Nakowa Hospital, she was diagnosed with malaria, enteric fever, and urinary tract infection (UTI).
Medical history
Ummi Kaltum Mohammed, 18 year old girl, was diagnosed with Malaria and a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). Upon her arrival at the clinic, she exhibited symptoms of fever, chills, and discomfort, which were indicative of her condition. The medical team quickly initiated treatment, administering a combination of antimalarial drugs and antibiotics to target both infections. The treatment was successful, and Ummi's condition began to improve rapidly. Within a few days, her fever subsided, and the symptoms of the UTI diminished significantly. Thanks to the prompt and effective treatment, Ummi's health was restored, allowing her to return to her normal activities, full of energy and joy. Her parents expressed their gratitude, saying, "We have never seen any organization that works as this. They brought flyers to our house telling us they offer free medical treatment. When we called them, they were happy to directed us to Nakowa Specialist Hospital. We got free treatment and ever since then our daughter has been feeling healthier and stronger."
Prognosis
Malaria should be treated promptly with the use of antimalarial drugs. If left untreated, it can lead to severe complications and even death. It can result in organ failure, severe anemia, neurological issues, and in some cases, prove fatal, making early diagnosis and treatment crucial for preventing these life-threatening consequences. UTI should be treated immediately, since it may spread onto kidneys, if left untreated. It will also keep causing pain and discomfort if the treatment is not received.
